WOLF New Moon
June 25th 2025 at 6:30am Eastern
New Moon at 4* 07' Cancer
8th Shape: WOLF:
0° Cancer – 12° 51' 26'' Cancer
The ingress of the Sun into tropical Cancer marks the Summer Solstice, or moment of peak light in the Northern Hemisphere. Although, I feel it is not fully the Summer Season in absolute essence until the first New Moon after Solstice. Where the New Moon after Vernal Equinox ushers in a kind of primordial cosmogenesis emerging out of the renewal and re-connection of the last degrees of the winter, the New Moon after Summer Solstice brings about the wholeness of the world in its entirety generated fully manifest, like a birth. This would be the time of floods in ancient Egypt, greening the banks of the Nile, and sync up with Dog Days of Summer in Greece, the rising of Sirius, the prismatic “scorcher”, the Dog Star, Sothis, the sublime Goddess reminiscent to the Shape opposite this one: This is WOLF and the opposite is VIRGIN, referring to the dedicated keepers of the temple who endure the long night of star studded winter. WOLF likely refers to Wepwawet, as the previous Shape DOG refers to Anubis and the Shape which follows WOLF being SERPENT likely refers to Kebechet, Anubis’ serpent goddess daughter, all three having cult roles in the processes of transition to the afterlife and mummification. Wepwawet’s name means “the opener of ways” (Kebechet's means "cooling water") and is associated with the Sun’s rise to the top of the sky, which probably refers to Summer Solstice, as well as the opening of the mouth ritual, performed to activate the senses of the deceased so they could make their way in the afterlife, and paralleled what was performed during childbirth, as death in this sense was considered the road to new life.

In Mithraism and elsewhere in the mystery schools the crossing of the Milky Way and the ecliptic at Summer Solstice was seen as a Gate Of Incarnation, where souls awaiting to enter the earthly realm arrived via the celestial confluence, as souls departing would exit a similar gate at Winter Solstice. In this sense the DOG to WOLF Shapes straddling the Summer Solstice border of Gemini and Cancer are the multi-headed dog Cerberus who guards the Underworld entrance at the celestial river Styx, or, the heroic dead or collected ancestors in visible heaven, the Milky Way, able to descend at Winter Solstice and return to the World, ushered through the gate by Cautes, one of the torch-bearing twins, echoing the ending edge of twinning Gemini, where we find the double dogs. Indeed, the Quimbanda Exu syncretized to the Verum spirit who would fall here according to Jake Stratton-Kent’s work is named Rios, “Of the Rivers”, perhaps referring to the same celestial confluence; Wepwawet was often depicted stationed on the bow of Ra’s solar-barque.

The Picatrix calls this mansion “The Gap”, a fitting name for a gate and says the talisman is for victory, which is in fact another association with Wepwawet, who assured victory for the pharaoh’s army and was sometimes depicted in military regalia and carrying weaponry. Picatrix sees an eagle with a man’s head, interesting as eagles are considered Jupitarian and this is the exaltation of Jupiter, something keyed in this solstice round as Jupiter has made his way back to this preferable position for the first time in twelve years. Wolves are also associated with Zeus, Greecs’s answer to Jupiter, as are eagles. The talisman is inscribed on tin and to be taken into battle, tin being the traditional metal of Jupiter as well. The Rigvedic deity of the Nakshatra is on the other hand Bṛhaspati, the priest of the gods, so religiosity and sacred knowledge rather than battle, but still notably Jupitarian. It is a Nakshatra of nourishment, appropriate to the reference in Egyptian sources to the mouth and flooding which enriches the greening world. The Chinese material also speaks of esoteric knowledge and religious initiations. It also covers lion-dogs which guard thresholds and entryways as well as a celestial guardian fangshi holding a staff, like the Mithraic torchbearer stationed at the solstitial axis. It speaks of clearing away impurity, which may connect with Wepwawet’s “opening of the ways” but also goes on to include wine, wine-making, abundance and plenty, which again are all Jupitarian. The Nakshatra agrees that this is a place for acquiring wealth as well as knowledge, and when the Picatrix mentions victory we can assume the spoils of war would include riches or property acquisition as well.

Jupiter is indeed tightly conjunct the lunation, in fact the Jupiter cazimi occurs one day prior on Tuesday morning 10:56 am Eastern time at 3 degrees and 21 minutes of Cancer while the Moon is still making its way through Gemini. She is actually just separating from squaring the nodal axis at that moment, which is interesting as the North Node is in Jupiter ruled Pisces and Mercury who rules the South Node in Virgo is still copresent Jupiter in Cancer, while Mercury and the Moon are in mutual reception. The subjective collection of impressions and subjective contemplations flowing through the Moon’s stream of consciousness pull at the exact narrative tension point of this eclipse period’s progression; removing redundancies so we may decomplexify our situations and reduce friction in our operations compelled to be more flowing, loose, unattached, expansive, empathically aware and immersive in what ambiance most nurtures us. This likely has to do with feeling we need to make some choices. With the Moon sextile to Chiron in Aries who is at that time square to Mercury it may be that these are not easy breezy selections but difficult decisions which narrow down the options guided by the obvious streams of fertilizer arriving for one or more sectors of our life’s gardens but not appropriate for all the plants in the nursery. Something is being awarded the opportunity to profoundly grow but not everything.

Wepwawet is opening the way to some victory as well as opening the mouth ceremonially so that which has died can travel on out of this world in a holistic clearing away of the impure and assuring renewal of life. Some good mojo-babies are being born, but amidst particular battles which will require serious tactical approaches in perception widening conflicts. We are up against things we don’t understand, and though we are blessed to receive divine juices to quench our thirsts, we may still have a mind for rationing and the wisdom to not waste both energy and stores, keeping to the contemporary demands to improve our skill set and win the day. The Picatrix here talks of love, friendship and allies, of which we assume we will gain as Jupiter in Cancer expands on fellowship and communing together and feasting, but with Saturn and Neptune together in Aries there is also a need to establish autonomy, independence, and individuate in such a way that tactically improves effectiveness and capability.

The lunation also sextile’s Aries’ ruler, Mars, in Virgo, critically responding to details of the logistical operations and life procedures that are in the nodal process of getting stripped down and refined. In a way this piece carries in it information which may mitigate the square effects between Saturn and Jupiter. Mars has us, at this moment, doing activities with the exact thing which needs the decomplexification, we are in fact currently hands on with the modules needing refinement. Check in with these few days of compulsions, benefits, restrictions, and contemplations of whats going out and what’s coming in at this tide top of annual luminosity and use the abundance of yang to gain clarity.

The square to Neptune obviously complicates clarity simultaneously, reminiscent of how much seeing clearly becomes a top priority when engulfed by fog while underway, the alarmingness of what you cannot currently see shows you exactly where perceptions need widening in the next cycle, and Jupiter’s position in exaltation lends some opportune resources to increase scope, once we understand more completely what’s good in the card hands we’re holding. That is exactly the purpose of this cazimi and New Moon: it initiates the moment where we begin to cohere our world for what it is, combining objective and subjective sensitivity, over the next weeks we will begin to better get a feel for things. This of course comes with some outrageous wild cards. Before the next Full Moon Uranus will change signs and catalyze a chaos of quickening just as Jupiter is emerging from combustion and our wide scope understanding of the external world goes back on line, before the upcoming Mercury retrograde’s next round of rethinking, with Mars getting closer and closer to the South Node and very specific incisions are made in the surgical processes of decomplexifying our logistical knotworks. If Wepwawet opens the mouth and restores the senses to that which is on a voyage of renewed life, then bring special attention to your breath and diet. Proceed with blessings of clarity and well being despite the noise and hyper-activity, and embrace victory at the confluence of soul and spirit.
