Full Moon 13* 02' Cancer

Saturday January 3rd 2026

9th Shape: SERPENT

12° 51' 26'' Cancer – 25° 42' 51'' Cancer

Saturday’s Full Moon in Cancer is notable for a number of reasons, but also carries with it quite a bit of mysterious and yet to be unpacked expression. The Moon is at home in Cancer, and so the themes of subjective awareness, emotional intelligence, feeling, empathy, intuition, sensitivity, receptivity, stream of conscious thought, dreams and impressions are turned up to vivid saturation, like it or not, and the need for comfort, care, nourishment, resource flow and a place to nest and generate what organically wants to grow or come about naturally will also be on high, pouring into our psychology and mood modulating state of being. This is further emphasized by Jupiter co-present in Cancer, having been there since June of 2025 working at expanding our coherence of the same realm so that we can swell this part of ourselves into more than we’ve previously been before, and see opportunities to grow from a place of seeking greater fulfillment. Jupiter’s trine to Neptune and Saturn leaving Pisces reveals where old habits regarding escapism and passive allowance of literal or metaphorical junk food are taking up space where nourishing life ways might be better suited. On the macro, we might consider the vigilance we must now muster to not be exposed to uninvited AI vampirism and PFAs laced garden beds, choosing instead to spend time in simple meditative contemplation or more mindful inhabiting of place.

The light which fills this Moon is being shone from territorial and monumental Capricorn, transferring with it an objective outlook centered on historical chronologies, ancestral bedrocks, life’s great works, and the strategic posturing which allows one to manage long game agendas from everything up until now fortified to endure far into indefiniteness. Although, there is considerable novelty embedded into the gears which turn within this machine; all three inner planets are making conjunctions with the Sun in the coming weeks, Venus on the 6th, Mars on the 9th and Mercury on the 21st. This means that potentially more than half of the houses in our nativities are all simultaneously receiving a synodic reset in a very short span of time.

The Moon Full in it’s rulership copresent an exalted Jupiter is an overbrimming climax of cancerian waters to conclude the last couple weeks with a fluid blooming of psychological, intuitive and emotive expression and occurrence, but the closings to cazimi which are transferred within the center of this are key and catalyst to the impetus of flood. We’re bursting at the seems with emotional info, stream of consciousness downloading along the themes of un-installing historical programs of chess-like stratagem as well as firing our long term museum directors as they’ve become misaligned with our values and aesthetic baselines. We’ll have to begin a very new kind of thinking that is more aligned with the future rather than the past. In fact, the past never looked more like the past. This is something that might happen in any paradigm shift. The gobsmacked moment when we have sat in our chairs and witnessed the rough and tumble readiness of the future which renders the now and everything before it too antiquated to be able to function, cope or protect us from what the future brings.

In this last sentence I’m referencing the infamous Sex Pistols performances on June 4th and July 20th 1976 at the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall. It was the first Sex Pistols performance outside of London, and the audience in Manchester included future members of Joy Division, New Order, the Smiths, the Fall, Simply Red, Magazine and Buzzcocks as well as a whole slew of to-become record label owners, club impresarios, music writers and other industry movers and shakers. NME described the first gig as the “most important concert of all time” and Tony Wilson, instrumental manager, club owner, TV/radio personality and band manager who attended the events later remarked: “The dawn of punk to the death of acid, taking you through two revolutions on their up and down cycles.” He explains no one was pogoing because it hadn’t been invented yet, so the audience all sat in their chairs and received the seed-forms for essentially most creative cultural codings of everything thenceforth.

Post-punk arriving ready to unfurl at the arrival of punk being a sharp corner turn away from glam and stadium rock and hippie and everything else which had built up since industrialization and post world wars. A core concept contained within this was to not wait, just do it now essential to DIY ethos as well as the molten creative current which doesn’t require referencing any previous forms to be able to express in meaningful ways, In this the Sex Pistols and their sound and aesthetic itself was not important, they simply carried the break from the past and the example of what could be done if the superstructure no longer had power over you. Anything indie, underground or alternative whether music, film, writing or otherwise may in a sense come in part from this supercharged end/beginning singularity event witnessed for 20ish minutes by 40ish people one night in Manchester England. People who were there described how the summer leading up to this night had felt exceedingly boring, and like now wages and prices were doubled, culture was a commercialized hyper colorful slop, technology was developing rapidly and media was mind numbing.

This event occurred last time Pluto was in early Air (Libra) and Neptune was in Fire (Sag). Saturn was in the late degrees of Water (cancer) and Uranus was across axis in Scorpio and Venus was also working through synodic reset. There’s enough to nod to in this previous era of inflation, dissolution, disappointment, distrust and cultural alienation. Not only was this a moment of cultural dominoes toppling over creating ground space for new ideas to proliferate, it also was amidst a moment when countercultural forms had been rapidly commodified by a voracious media machine poised to pounce upon anything which could extract value from youth markets.

The post-punk turn reflected a way of doing things outside of the institutions and even though began amidst people who were young, quickly proved to not be age bound, as for instance, The Fall became John Peels favorite band and the Fall’s singer kept the band going from 1976 until his death in 2018. What would splinter into DIY and Indy in all it’s forms had formidable work ethic and was not reliant on fresh-face cash grabs, but in opposition to the unattainable beauty standards of mass media culture, the nerve center electrifying this new way of working was one of stable idea generation and substance refinement: none of the bands or labels birthed from the Sex Pistols performance looked or sounded like the Sex Pistols at all. This didn’t have to do with mimicry, but rather the removal of cumbersome and restrictive architecture which slows down raw and real processes.

Back to 2026 and we know we are headed into more new than we know what to do with, and this Full Moon fully feels the corner turning which is the old programs shutting down as new ones are going online, like Tony Wilson’s two revolutions at once, one on up and the other on downswing. Literally, we are waking up from our weed gummy, opioid, psilocybin, ayahuasca infused experience from 2012 until now and likely reaching for stimulants to pep up our direct interface as we did with coca leaf infused Vino Marinelli last time Neptune entered Aries in the 1800s and also as we did in 1976 when acid/marijuana were out and speed/alcohol was in. Similarly, television and all other pop channels in 1976 were being diverted while last time Saturn was in Aries in the late 90s that effect persisted and included early internet post dot com bubble— people were too busy living to care much about chat rooms until the device convenience caught up with us by the streaming era, i.e. Neptune in Pisces, which again is now concluding in a match-up to Saturn’s last visit to the start of the zodiac. Reset, new, pioneering, beginning, initiating energetics are percolating all around us, and the bubbles we identify of this stirring are within the muck of the old, rotten and melted down.

It’s likely we won’t see a cultural shift riding upon the innovation of AI but a counter-cultural turn in a time where media is heavily polluted by AI. We didn’t necessary choose to all put 100% of our lives online, we got corralled there into the mass meta soup. As the pendulum swings the other way we may return to a “fuck you I’m not for sale” attitude, which could reverberate disruptively throughout the monetized and tokenized digital structure in destabilizing ways. Last time Saturn was in Aries and Uranus was in Gemini we saw people cut loose from their traditional roles and trainings to wander in Wild Wests and post Shogunate easts. Our alert and awake wanderings this round in 2026 and beyond may simply be in the lack of online, or in the Wildness of the IRL where anything can happen and much of what we find is boom town facades or tumbleweed ghost towns— some diagonal energy expression outside of the physical gridlock of Airbnb driven prices in post-covid housing markets.

The cardinality of this lunation across the Cancer-Capricorn axis is notable in the references to Saturn-Neptune’s upcoming re-ingress into Aries being made in January and February. The four cardinal signs do things differently but each is prepared to initiate, begin and start up; Aries by direct impulsive striking out, Cancer by generating feeding and birthing, Libra by socializing, responding, collaborating and meeting and Capricorn by setting cornerstones, foundations, building and strategizing. This moment is as liminal as it gets, with another dose of ending things so other things can begin, a different form following suit from all of 2025 and even still reverberating since the Air period began in 2020.

Here, things get less conceptual and more real. The Cancerian Moon in the midst of procreative Jupiter is at peak fertility and beginning to direct nourishment flows towards what could, can and should be growing and coming about to fulfill us. The gates and locks and pathways, corridors, chutes and general works which direct the conveyor belts in the infrastructure get put under heavy scrutiny, so as to make finalizing decisions what to stop feeding or protecting. What we no longer desire and what we simply are no longer playing for. We take game pieces off the table and stow old costumes away, as did those who’s noble titles lost significance after WWI. The South Node in Virgo, Uranus’ last visit to Taurus and these Capricorn cazimis, like “New Moons” for Venus and Mars, all trine by sign, so amidst the swell of emotions and subjective coherence we are making final and critical adjustments to the material, concrete and rational dimensions of our existences. There’s no reason for certain productions to continue, the territory has changed beneath our feet and the status which once held so much sway no longer has power. We’re all doing something else now then we historically had, both personally and collectively.

With all the going dark and going ofl-line this entails projected phantasmagorically onto the bright and light dripping Moon, this could feel in an odd way like a whole lot of nothin’. Many people have been reporting nothing happening around them and a strange sense of unfamiliar boredom. This is a natural result of feeling once pumping pistons and running engines now gone silent and cold, beginning to get museum ropes put around them. Remember the old model T? What a work horse in its day? Now moving on. But the reflection actually goes much deeper, as the multiple cazimis in Torch resound with an illumination of the deep past, that which is ancestral and even ancient, reality’s catacombs and your personal antecedents, whether they be what haunts your house or what your great grandmother wore on her wedding day. All that is ancestral or in lineage tends to perk up and vibrate when some new addition to the chain of being is potentiating and stepping into manifestation.

The lunation itself is in the 9th Shape of Serpent, the anatomical stomach of the world and the watery womb of primordial leviathans from original chaos. I often refer to this post Summer Solstice stretch of zodiacal territory as the “Let there Be Light” section, in that it is where we see the fully created world in its fullness, we see everything as what it can ultimately become. So the Dragons and Serpents that are able to take over the earth are here slithering and reminding us that in the beginning, before we even existed, the world had hatched with immense life far beyond our scale. The Picatrix calls this mansion “The Eyes”, and the word in the PGM translated to SERPENT is Drákon, or ‘dragon’ which also has etymological roots in being able “to see”.

The hypnotic gaze of the time of year subject to the most light is seen in the 9th Nakshatra also as a coiling serpent, pinned to the Hydra constellation and carrying the essence of an enchanted underworld rife with gems, gold and other earthly treasures as well as bodies of water below which have similar abundant potential beneath. Here there is possible excess sexual energy, and forewarnings of wasteful intoxication vs the more stable gems attainable, even those of subtle, spiritual energy. It is a hypnotic and trance inducing Nakshatra, which makes sense as this place is associated in the Western traditions with the prismatically flashing Sothis/Sirius or scorching prismatic Dog Star and the Dog Days of Summer when the Nile would flood, the earth would green and become a habitat for snakes.

The 9th Chinese Xiu refers to the mythos of the Oxboy, evoking roads, paths, crossroads, fields, curbs, boundaries, loss and obstruction, loss from inattention to detail, distractedness, dizzy romance, infatuation, unrequited love, encapsulated in the summer festival of Oxboy and Weaving Maiden with advise to stay home, guard resources, and focus so as not to get carried away. Conservative advice is common in this literature, but as the Vedic resonance with the nodes, via the Rig Vedic association with Sargas and Nagas, or deified snakes and specifically cobras, summons our attention to not being driven by compulsion alone, and approaching the moment with a measure of mindfulness to how much we push, how much we allow, how much to mediate, meter and let flow and to where or why.

We turn the liminal corner here. We cannot know what world we will see on the other side, after the bend in the serpent winding river of fate, but we feel new life conceived of, and have tasted future initiations, we are aware that the power has shifted places, the superstructure has changed, and adjustments are being made to feed and establish a life safe and appropriate to different circumstances than we are used to being in historically. Even though sitting in our bunkers and having the world delivered to us has worked up until now, it may not work from here on. The TV rerun disco augmented by AI and fed on rapidly degrading Amazon fulfillments may revolve out as more direct and autonomously effective modes revolve in. In this moment our respect for institutions shift and our acknowledgement for what institutions even are also gets multiple switches flipped. World Eggs illuminate, dragons hatch, banks flood, lineages rattle their cages, and we all change our strategies, both critical and creative. Not everything is visible but everything is felt. Yesterday and tomorrow are different, and for now, becoming different all the time.
